We hate to use toxic chemicals around our family and pets but nobody wants ants in their kitchen. Ant Away is safe to use around children, pets, and food preparation areas. It contains only clear essential oils and water and smells pleasantly spicy, of cinnamon and clove. Simply mist your countertops, sills, and floor with Ant Away where ants travel. Why does it work? Ants use scent to communicate, laying trails of pheromones to direct colony members to food they have found. Ant Away masks their communication trails. It is like trying to have a conversation at a Metallica concert. Spray Ant Away as often as you like. It may take four or five days for the ants to give up and go. Our only caution is to test our product for staining on absorbent surfaces.

The basis of our Brown Windsor soap comes from Perfumery and Kindred Arts, a Comprehensive Treatise on Perfumery by Richard Cristiani, published in Philadelphia in 1877. Even then, the author referred to the recipe as Old Brown Windsor Soap. The original soap was made in Windsor, England, and exported around the world. Brown Windsor was said to be a favorite of Napoleon, a notorious lover of scent. Cristianis recipe called for lavender, bergamot, caraway, petitgrain, cinnamon, and clove. We tested various proportions of these essential oils and chose the blend we found most satisfying.

These incense sticks are handmade here in St. Louis by fellow craftsmen who share our directive to make strictly all-natural products. They've developed the most wonderful scents!

hand-rolled incense

Each tube contains seven sticks, and each stick burns for about an hour. They are quite fragrant. You may choose to burn just a part of a stick at a time.

All are made with the powdered bark of the makko tree, Machillus thunbergii. This bark is naturally combustible—no need for charcoal or saltpeter. There is no punk stick to burn as the incense dough is extruded and hand-cut, resulting in pure, resinous, and herbal material.

The ones we use come directly to us from Egypt. Luffa aegyptiaca is a member of the Cucurbitaceae (gourd) family that includes squash, pumpkins and zucchini. When young and tender, sponge gourds are eaten. When mature, they are used for a natural scrub. You will see why luffas have been used for thousands of years. They have a perfect texture for the job: not too rough but just right.

The root beer scent, also associated with birch beer and sarsaparilla, comes from essential oil of white birch. The hint of wintergreen is also from birch. Ground sassafras root and bark is added to the bar to lightly exfoliate the skin. The sassafras also makes the bar a lovely purple shade. Like all Herbaria soaps, Sassafras Birch is first and foremost a great soap with terrific lather and moisturizing hemp seed oil.
