Almond Green Tea tops our list of over 60 soap varieties, all exceptionally moisturizing, lathering, and long lasting. To create the rich, characteristic almond aroma of Almond Green Tea, we add to our base costly essential oil of bitter almond, prized for its marzipan scent. We do not use imitation almond flavoring. We refuse to use synthetic fragrance oils in any of our products. Beyond its beautiful bouquet, Almond Green Tea doubles the health benefits to your skin, from head to toe. The emollient in this bar, sweet almond oil, is easily absorbed through the skin and nurtures it with calcium, magnesium, Vitamins A, B1, B2, B6 and E. Green tea, the source of the warm brown color of the bar, is a natural antiseptic. Laboratory research indicates that green tea, an antioxidant, reduces free radicals and thereby provides a layer of protection against skin cancer and aging. We suggest Almond Green Tea for breakouts, blemishes and sunburns.

If you’re searching for classic bay rum scent in a soap, we’ve got the best. We’re crazy about it! We offer this body bar with or without exfoliating oatmeal and also in a round, creamy shave puck. Vibrant with the irresistible spiciness of the West Indian bay tree, this soap will quickly become your favorite. Prized essential oil of Pimenta racemosa, a cousin of allspice, dominates the fragrance. Then we top off the aroma with just a dash of sweet orange oil. The natural russet color of the bar comes from steeped elderberries.

Our neighbor, Chocolate Chocolate Chocolate Company, has sold our moisturizing, Chocolate soap since they moved to the Hill. Like us, they pride themselves on being 100% natural and they offer factory tours. Like their gold-wrapped chocolate bars, our Chocolate Chocolate Chocolate Company soap bars get wrapped in gold foil, too. If you love chocolate, you’ll love this bar. Enjoy it all you want and you won’t gain an ounce. Chocolate is good for you. We use only real chocolate, an absolute of cocoa beans from the cacao tree, Theobroma cacao. The genus name Theobroma means "food of the gods." Also from Theobroma cacao comes the cocoa butter we add as an excellent emollient to soften your skin. Our Chocolate soap delivers a bounty of antioxidants and phytonutrients to and through your skin. Its scrumptiously scented creamy lather is anti-bacterial as well. Every chocolate lover you know will crave this cake of soap.

“Why coffee soap?” you may ask. Because the aroma of good coffee is an exquisite pleasure derived from its complex of 28 odorants. In this fruity, earthy, spicy bar, you will also discover vanilla, honey, butter and more. The scent of coffee can invigorate you and reset your sense of smell. Use it in your morning shower or at the kitchen sink, where it will remove strong food odors. We use costly coffee oil derived from select Coffea arabica beans through a supercritical CO2 extraction method. The process is nontoxic and employs no alcohol or petroleum products. Coffee oil is also the only colorant in this deep golden bar. We cannot create the delicate natural scent of this soap from instant coffee or synthetic fragrances. Cocoa butter in the soap supplies a rich moisturizer and complements the coffee fragrance. We tried adding coffee grounds, but we didn’t like the insoluble specks that remained. We preferred a smooth and creamy bar with our characteristic rich lather.

These two ancient fragrances have been revered for over 5,000 years. Renowned as the gift of the Magi to the baby Jesus, and even more valuable than the gold they brought, frankincense and myrrh offered a multitude of medicinal qualities in addition to their heavenly scents. As with all our soaps, Herbaria does not use imitation fragrances. To make this soap, we add genuine steam distilled essential oils imported from Somalia. These costly oils account for the bar’s premium price. The frankincense is derived from a resin of the Boswellia carterii tree; the myrrh is a resin from the Commifora myrrha tree. Finely ground Rhassoul clay, from the Atlas Mountains of Morocco, is marbled into this bar to provide a mineral-rich toner. Shea butter, also from Africa, moisturizes and protects your skin. Homeopathic literature claims that frankincense is spiritually healing and calming, and also skin-regenerative, antiseptic, anti-carcinogenic, anti-inflammatory and an antidepressant. It can be especially beneficial to the respiratory system for coughs, bronchitis, colds and flu. We make no claims—we simply believe you will find this soap a royal treasure.

Many fans of our bestselling Lavender Oatmeal asked also for a smooth, non-textured lavender bar. In response, we’ve crafted our French Lavender soap with some highly pleasing differences. The fragrance of our Lavender Oatmeal comes from the popular cultivar of lavender called lavendula. By contrast, the slightly sweeter fragrance of our French Lavender bar comes from an essential oil blend of French, Italian and prized Bulgarian lavender. The Lavender Oatmeal bar is naturally white. While we never use artificial color in our soaps, we are particularly delighted we were able to create a natural purple hue for our French Lavender bar. Wild-harvested alkanet (Batschia canescens) makes the soft lilac color. The French Lavender bar contains sweet almond oil as an emollient. It will leave your skin feeling clean and soft, as all our soaps do.

This is no child’s ginger cookie. This is a serious soap with a spicy, earthy, woody blend of ginger and neem, two revered plants from the Indian subcontinent. The fragrance of fresh ginger essential oil stimulates your senses and creates an exotic atmosphere for your bath. Powdered ginger is used to give the bar its lovely golden color. Neem is the perfect moisturizer to pair with ginger. Cold pressed neem possesses a wide spectrum of benefits for skin health and has traditionally been used to treat skin diseases, inflammations and eczema. Neem oil has enhanced cosmetics for centuries. Of course, like all our soaps, Ginger Neem is vegetarian and cruelty-free.

Do you remember making pomanders as a kid—an orange studded with whole cloves left to dry and scent the closet? That is what Island Spice soap smells like. Very spicy and warming, like cookies in the oven. Originally a holiday inspiration, folks demanded this soap all year 'round. It contains essential oils of nutmeg, clove leaf, cinnamon leaf, orange and tangerine, plus ground cinnamon for color. It's also superfatted with shea butter.

The lemony, floral notes of our Italian Bergamot bar come from essential oil of bergamot, extracted from the peel of an orange-like citrus fruit that grows in southern Italy along the Mediterranean coast. The bergamot essential oil we use is bergaptene free so there’s no problem in regards to sun exposure. Bergamot has long been used in perfumery. It gave its fragrance to the original Eau de Cologne developed in Germany in the 17th century and continues to be a favorite ingredient in many popular women’s and men’s perfumes and colognes. The soft, spicy scents in the soap come from lavender and clove, which blend with the bergamot to make an especially fresh and clean aroma. We add hemp seed oil as a skin softener. Aromatherapists believe that bergamot perks you up when you feel stress and anxiety. We think you will enjoy this delightfully fragrant soap.

Over a decade ago, LaRee DeFreece developed our first soaps. Of all the varieties she created, this pure, unscented Castile soap is still her favorite. She loves the nourishing, moisturizing addition of extra shea butter and avocado oil. LaRee’s Scent Free is also available with groundoatmeal. Oatmeal exfoliates dead skin cells and offers colloidal benefits to further soothe and soften skin.

Our May Chang bar is guaranteed to energize your day and put you in a sunny mood. May Chang smells intensely lemony yet the fragrance is sweeter and fruitier. The bar is smooth and creamy with a golden yellow color from turmeric. What’s may chang? It’s the common name of Litsea cubeba, a member of the Laurel family growing in East Asia. Its leaves are loaded with citral, which also imparts the scent to lemon verbena. Lemon verbena essential oil, used in perfumes, would be too expensive to use in our soap. Besides, honestly, we think may chang smells brighter and fresher. The first-rate cleansing benefits of this bar work well for face and body. In addition, it is said to relieve oily skin and acne and provide a calming effect on the nervous system.

We’ve recently discovered muhuhu essential oil. It's wonderfully fragrant. It's commonly known as African sandalwood because it smells quite similar to Indian sandalwood. Muhuhu smells woody, sweet and faintly floral. We get lots of requests for a sandalwood soap but genuine essential oil of sandalwood is extremely expensive. If you find something called sandalwood soap, we’ll bet it’s made with synthetic fragrance. Sandalwood, like rosewood, is endangered. We do not use essential oils from endangered species. We consulted the Missouri Botanical Garden and received the okay to use muhuhu. “It’s near threatened but it’s easy to raise. Not endangered at this point,” a researcher told us. (We also learned the proper binomial of muhuhu is Brachylaena huillensis, rather than the B. hutchinsii one sees on many websites.) Muhuhu essential oil is nonethless rare. We could have diluted it with less costly essential oils, but we want you to enjoy the pure scent of the muhuhu. Italian clay makes the bar a soft orangey color. We’ve superfatted it with unrefined shea butter because shea comes from Africa as well and it is a superior moisturizer to add to soap. Africans use muhuhu for its antimicrobial and aphrodisiac properties. However, little is known of this oil, so we cannot recommend it for use by pregnant women, infants or children.

There’s old time goodness in this all-vegetable Castile soap. Old Fashioned Lye Soap is great for bathing, shampooing and washing clothes. Its only scent is the pure, clean soap smell. The old soap making process we use retains natural glycerin as a moisturizer. We don't want to brag, but this is probably a finer soap than Grandma used to make. We start with fresh food-grade oils in our bars—olive oil, soy oil and palm kernel oils. Together they make a bar that is moisturizing, that lathers well and is long-lasting.

Dressed up from our original all-white bar, our enhanced Peppermint bars contain unique swirls of Australian pink clay. The clay adds color and healthy, soothing minerals to make a delightful bathing experience for everyone in the family. (Full disclosure: since this original writing, we've had a couple reports that the clay can discolor a white washcloth.) Creamy, cleansing lather leaves your skin feeling tingly with natural menthol from the oil of peppermint. Peppermint essential oil also provides the dominant scent, which we soften and round out with a touch of sweet palmarosa essential oil. Enjoy inhaling the smooth mint aroma—it awakens your mental alertness and concentration.

The romantic scent of this soap will brighten your spirits as you clean, tone and moisturize your skin. The natural fragrance comes from the essential oil of Egyptian rose geranium. Palmarosa, another rosy-scented essential oil, moderates the sweetness to create a fuller and more complex aroma. The Rose Geranium bar is one of our few floral-scented soaps. We cannot use real rose extractions because they are prohibitively expensive, added only to costly perfumes. And our products never contain synthetic fragrance oils. Soothing, and gentle enough for sensitive skin, this soap promotes the body’s natural ability to balance oil production. We add Australian pink clay not only to create the lovely pink color but also to provide its softening and conditioning qualities. Our emollient in this bar is avocado oil.

Straight from the mountains of Europe comes the essential oil in our irresistible Silver Fir & Lavender. We chose this specific fir from many possible evergreen oils because of its soft, lovely balsam-like fragrance. To fully develop the bouquet of the soap, we added lavender and a touch of cade (Juniperus oxycedrus)—a smoky, cedar-like essential oil we hadn’t offered before. We know many people love our Evergreen bar, which LaRee created years ago. It is an extra-exfoliating bar with oatmeal and seaweed. Silver Fir & Lavender is a smooth, creamy bar with French green clay. The clay’s micro molecules absorb excess oils, toxins and impurities from your skin, help you treat complexion problems, and tone your skin. Almond oil is added for extra moisturizing. You will adore this silvery-green bar.

Liquid detergents and most pump hand “soaps” dry skin out. Our solution: a fabulous utilitarian bar that moisturizes your skin no matter how often you wash your hands. Sink Side Kitchen Soap quickly removes grease, dirt and germs. It rinses off in a flash. The bar has a light, fresh, herbal scent from essential oils. Synthetic perfumes in most dishwashing liquids cling to your hands and can end up in your apple pie. Use Sink Side Kitchen Soap also to clean fruits and vegetables, like those apples for the pie or a lemon before zesting.

Bar shampoo? Yes! If your dog has skin problems, check the ingredients in the liquid pet shampoo you’re using. It is probably made with detergents, harsh surfactants and synthetic fragrances. These can cause dry skin and trigger allergies. Soapy’s Choice will leave your pup clean, fresh-smelling and huggable. It's made with the same gentle, wholesome base oils as our people soaps and guaranteed not to irritate a dog’s sensitive skin. Soapy’s Choice is scented with canine-friendly essential oils: lavender, peppermint, cedarwood, tea tree, lemon eucalyptus and geranium. We add moisturizing jojoba and neem oils, emollients that assure a clean, healthy, shiny coat. How to use Soapy’s Choice Rub the wet bar over your dog’s wet coat. Work up a lather and massage the suds into the fur. Avoid soap in the eyes or deep in the ears. Rinse thoroughly. Repeat the wash and rinse if you like. Stand back for the shake-off, then towel dry.

When photographer Steve Adams, Ken’s friend, recently returned from Provence, he reported seeing many vendors of Savon d’Alep. It’s a soap from an ancient Syrian recipe that employs laurel for fragrance and color. Steve asked if Herbaria made anything like that. His suggestion was the impetus to create a soap Ken had been wanting to make for some time. Ken loves the smell of sweet bay laurel, which many of you cooks also enjoy. Ken was anxious to use another favorite essential oil, Sugandha Kokila, not well known in the U.S., but treasured in perfumery. Kokila, commonly called laurel berry, comes from a tree that grows in the Himalayas in Nepal. Ken combined the sweet bay laurel (Laurus nobilis) and the laurel berry (Cinnamomum glaucescens), two stellar fragrances from the Laurel family. The result: this magically enchanting Laurel Leaf & Berry soap. The fragrance is aromatic and spicy, camphor-like, warm and woody.

This might be the happiest bar of soap ever, a fragrant marriage of citrusy orange and sweet vanilla. Sniff closely and you’ll find that the tan swirls smell of vanilla and the bright orange swirls smell like freshly squeezed oranges. Each bar comes out slightly different, some more vanilla, some more orange. That’s the charm of it. To impart the yummy vanilla aroma, we use a natural vanilla infusion made with pods of the orchid Vanilla planifolia. The fresh orange scent comes from 5-fold orange essential oil. A touch of patchouli enlivens the scent of the orange but if we didn’t tell you, you wouldn’t know it was there. The natural orange color of this bar comes from annatto seeds, from the achiote shrub of South America. This herb has been treasured since Mayan times as a topical skin treatment and also used in cosmetics. Annatto is commonly used today to color foods such as cheddar cheese and butter. Rich in carotenoids, annatto functions as an antioxidant, like vitamin E.

We’ve sold this soap for years as Jojoba Shampoo. The only difference besides the name change is that we eliminated the labor intensive swirl we’d put on the surface of each Jojoba Shampoo bar. Why the name change? This solid bar is perfect for travel because it multitasks as shampoo, face and body soap, and shave cream. Since airline regulations limit liquids in carry-on luggage, you’ll zip through TSA inspections. If you are one of the thousands who love our all natural Jojoba Shampoo, fear not. Your hair will be treated to the same gentle cleaning and copious lather. Like all of our soaps, Traveler’s Choice contains no detergents, phthalates or synthetic fragrances. Jojoba oil, the extra moisturizer in this shampoo, may help alleviate dandruff and dry, irritated scalps. Jojoba oil also makes hair lustrous. Rosemary and petitgrain create the light fragrance. These essential oils have a reputation of herbal benefits for hair and scalp.
