Our expeller-pressed sweet Almond Oil makes an excellent massage oil because it absorbs through our pores slowly. Almond Oil is a luxurious, non-greasy moisturizer that leaves your skin soft, silky and smooth. It is excellent for all skin types (unless you have a nut allergy). We add in some lavender essential oil, an aromatherapeutic treasure, to promote relaxation and natural healing for lungs, sinuses and skin. Float a few drops of Almond Oil in your bath. The warm water will gently vaporize the lavender essential oil. Lie back and breathe deeply. Store Almond Oil in a cool place. Compared to our Jojoba Oil, it has a shorter shelf life. That’s why we offer it in 2- and 4-ounce bottles.

French Lavender Soap

Many fans of our bestselling Lavender Oatmeal asked also for a smooth, non-textured lavender bar. In response, we’ve crafted our French Lavender soap with some highly pleasing differences. The fragrance of our Lavender Oatmeal comes from the popular cultivar of lavender called lavendula. By contrast, the slightly sweeter fragrance of our French Lavender bar comes from an essential oil blend of French, Italian and prized Bulgarian lavender. The Lavender Oatmeal bar is naturally white. While we never use artificial color in our soaps, we are particularly delighted we were able to create a natural purple hue for our French Lavender bar. Wild-harvested alkanet (Batschia canescens) makes the soft lilac color. The French Lavender bar contains sweet almond oil as an emollient. It will leave your skin feeling clean and soft, as all our soaps do.

Lavender Oatmeal Soap

Hands down, we get more positive reports on our Lavender Oatmeal than on any other bar. Many customers tell us that longstanding skin problems, like eczema, disappeared after using this soap. Use it for face and body. It’s so popular that, to suit a variety of skin types, we offer the soap in three different grinds of oatmeal, Regular, Extra Exfoliating, and Extra Colloidal. In the exfoliating action, oats scrub away dead skin cells. In the colloidal action, oatmeal binds moisturizing emollients to your skin, making it softer and more elastic. Most everyone will be happy with our regular Lavender Oatmeal. It has lightly ground oats to scrub, moisturize and soothe nearly any skin type. Lavender Oatmeal--Extra Exfoliating is perfect for young, firm skin. A good scrub invigorates and leaves a glow. As we age, though, skin gets thinner. Less exfoliation is preferable. Lavender Oatmeal--Extra Colloidal with finely ground oatmeal will suit Grandma better. The floral fragrance of lavender, loved for centuries, will both calm and delight your spirits. In fact, aromatherapists prescribe lavender as an antidepressant. The essential oil of lavender in our bars also makes them anti-bacterial and antifungal. A word about fragrance: Natural floral fragrances, like rose or jasmine, come from labor intensive harvesting of seasonally available flower petals. Hence, most floral essential oils are costly and found only in expensive perfumes. On the other hand, entire fields of lavender plants are harvested to produce lavender essential oil. Our bars are completely natural and still reasonably priced. In addition to soothing oatmeal and delightful scent, our Lavender Oatmeal bars all have a healthy dose of moisturizing shea butter. The shea butter coats your skin with protective, nourishing emollient. Shea butter is so thick and creamy you’d think it would clog pores. But it doesn’t; it is considered noncomedogenic.

Licorice Soap

First of all, the intense scent of this bar will knock you out. Sweet black licorice to the max, the fragrance will make you happy every time you step into the bathroom. As in premium licorice candy, star anise is what powers the aromatic olfactory pleasure. Then, to assure you the herbal benefits of the whole licorice plant, we’ve added real licorice root to the soap. Here's your ticket to an extraordinary shower. Luffa soap will quickly become your skin's BFF. We’ve incorporated our moisturizing soap into whole natural luffas (also spelled loofah). The ones we use come directly to us from Egypt. Luffa aegyptiaca is a member of the Cucurbitaceae (gourd) family that includes squash, pumpkins and zucchini. When young and tender, “sponge gourds” are eaten. When mature, they are used for a natural scrub. You’ll see why luffas have been used for thousands of years. They have a perfect texture for the job: not too rough but just right. These 6.5 ounce bars last for many enjoyable showers. They're big. They cover a large area with each pass. We’ve added a loop of hemp cord through the bar so it will hang and dry between uses. Rosemary Soap

Rosemary has a long history as a favorite fragrance. Some time in the 1300s, it was the key ingredient in the famous perfume, Hungary water. Legend tells of a queen of Hungary, who, wearing the fragrance at the age of 72, captivated the King of Poland in a romantic liaison. For the next 500 years, until the French started producing eau de Cologne in the Eighteenth Century, no other herb enjoyed the popularity of rosemary either as a scent or as a natural remedy. No wonder one of our most beloved soaps is Rosemary. We blend three essential oils to create this scent. It is predominately rosemary but tempered with lavender and softened with rose-like palmarosa. Your skin will love the Rosemary bar as much as your nose. Finely crumbled rosemary leaves add a bit of texture. A healthy dose of hemp seed oil provides a lavish moisturizer.

Shaw's Garden Soap

When the Missouri Botanical Garden asked us to create an exclusive bar honoring its 150th anniversary, we crafted this uniquely herbal and peppery soap. We tested many blends of plant oils to develop the bar’s sophisticated fragrance. When we were finally satisfied, we sent a bar to perfumer Thierry Masson of La Rochelle, France, to evaluate the scent. He wrote back enthusiastically. “This bar has good balance—it’s woody, fresh and spicy.” Each ingredient of the soap reflects the Garden’s mission to discover and share knowledge about plants and their environment. To remember the Garden’s founder, Henry Shaw, we selected a popular scent from his Victorian era, lavender, as a familiar note in the soap’s luscious bouquet. To suggest Missouri, we added cedarwood oil with its resinous aroma. To recognize the Garden’s preservation of biodiversity around the world, we chose katrafay, Cedrelopsis grevei, a little known plant from Madagascar with a captivating smell. Vibrant fresh green peppercorn oil, also from Madagascar, adds the finishing note in our Shaw’s Garden bar. The natural green color of the bar comes from both the powder and the leaf of wild nettle plants. Nettle is a vitamin-rich herb found all over the world. Like all of our bars, Shaw’s Garden will pamper your skin with moisturizing emollients.

When photographer Steve Adams, Ken’s friend, recently returned from Provence, he reported seeing many vendors of Savon d’Alep. It’s a soap from an ancient Syrian recipe that employs laurel for fragrance and color. Steve asked if Herbaria made anything like that. His suggestion was the impetus to create a soap Ken had been wanting to make for some time. Ken loves the smell of sweet bay laurel, which many of you cooks also enjoy. Ken was anxious to use another favorite essential oil, Sugandha Kokila, not well known in the U.S., but treasured in perfumery. Kokila, commonly called laurel berry, comes from a tree that grows in the Himalayas in Nepal. Ken combined the sweet bay laurel (Laurus nobilis) and the laurel berry (Cinnamomum glaucescens), two stellar fragrances from the Laurel family. The result: this magically enchanting Laurel Leaf & Berry soap. The fragrance is aromatic and spicy, camphor-like, warm and woody.
