Citronella is a close relative of lemongrass. It smells fresh and clean and also repels insects. Used normally... “citronella products are not expected to cause harm to humans, pets or the environment.” US Environmental A woman from Texas once wrote, "I rub your Natural Citronella & Marigold soap on me as an insect repellent. Is there any way you can make a spray instead?" We loved the idea and Citronella Mist has become one of our most popular products.

We dilute the mix with nothing but water — no emulsifying agents, greasy oils or alcohol to dry your skin. And there’s no DEET (diethyl-meta-toluamide) here to endanger your health or our planet. Under normal outdoor conditions, the repellent will last an hour or more. You can safely mist as often as you like to suit variations in your biochemistry or a particular environment. Under harsh conditions, however, not even DEET will repel insects. For those situations, we suggest protective gear. The blend of essential oils includes:
Ticks and ChiggersFor protection against ticks and chiggers, we have extensive field experience to share. The following nontoxic preventions work. For ticks, tuck your pant legs into your socks and seal the tops of the socks with duct tape. Ticks trying to crawl through to your skin will get stuck on the tape before they can bite you. Keep another strip of tape handy to lift off the ticks as you spot them on your skin and clothing. Ticks take some time to attach themselves to you. After an outing, thoroughly inspect your body. A hand mirror and/or a close friend can help. Remove ticks with duct tape if possible or use a tweezers to pull them out gently. Take care not to squeeze their bodies too hard because you want to prevent their innards from entering your bloodstream through their mouths. For chiggers, Citronella Mist helps repel these tiny red mites that can leave excruciatingly itchy red welts around your ankles and upwards. Powdered sulphur is also said to be effective but the smell is offensive to some. The most effective way to deal with chiggers is simply to make sure you take a shower within four hours of exposure and scrub very well with a washcloth. For a supplement to Citronella Mist in deep woods, you might try Repel Permanone® Insect Repellent Clothing & Gear Spray. As its name suggests, this seriously toxic insecticide is not to be sprayed on the skin. It must be applied hours in advance in order to permeate and dry on your clothes. Each bottle of Citronella Mist counts as 1 bar in our "buy 6, get 1 free" offer. |
